Spiritual Cinema

Wanderlust Festival is happy to be introducing a Spiritual Cinema series this year, sponsored by Gaiam's Spiritual Cinema Circle. We will be featuring films that not only address the growing popularity in practicing yoga, but films that explore the essence of spirituality and challenge our notion of what it means to be a guru. Films will be followed by a short Q&A with either the director or star of the film. Screenings are open to yoga and music ticket holders and do not count as one of your classes. Standby's will be accommodated on a first come first served basis as room permits. The screenings will take place in the AlpenGlow (also home to the Speakeasy Lecture Series).

"If you think you think, if you feel you feel, if you believe you believe, then you must see Kumaré."
-Larry Charles (Director of Borat and Religulous)

File 8695"What begins as an earnest survey of yoga culture in North America takes an unexpected and poignant turn when selfproclaimed religious skeptic Vikram Gandhi delves deep into the world of gurus. Gandhi transcends the typical critique of New Age culture as he transforms himself, in a true method-acting performance, into the Guru Kumaré. He discovers that all a guru requires is followers, an ideology and an Indian accent. Step one: grow your hair and beard. Step two: immerse yourself in yoga and meditation. Step three: dive head first into your inner pool of spiritual leadership. As a filmmaker, Gandhi walks an ethical minefield, endeavoring to treat his subjects with sensitivity and respect. As Kumaré, he carefully avoids humiliating or duping his followers, attempting to speak in truths and to impart lessons worth learning. A post-modern comedy that's both revelatory and inspiring, Kumaré may just unleash the guru within you."
-Lynn Crocker at Hot Docs

Screening: Friday July 29th - 8:30pm - Gaiam Tent

Connected: The Film

The acclaimed Sundance documentary Connected: An Autoblogography about Love, Death & Technology offers an exhilarating stream-of-consciousness ride through the interconnectedness of humankind, nature, progress and morality at the dawn of the 21st century. Between texts and tweets, memes and microchips, we've become conditioned to break the world down into byte-sized bits. In Connected, Tiffany Shlain—award-winning filmmaker and founder of The Webby Awards—traces interdependence through history, discovering surprising links between right brain and left; honey bees and stress; hormones and happiness; technology and nature; progress and consequences; and parents and children. The result: a personal film with universal resonance. For centuries we've declared independence. With insight, curiosity, and humor, Connected explores whether it's time to declare our interdependence instead.

Screening: Friday July 29th - 7:00pm - Alpen Glow Speakeasy
