- the Amtrak train passes through San Francisco and Sacramento on its way to Truckee, which is only 8 miles from Wanderlust. Because there are many public transportation options out of Reno, we've provided additional information below.
Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO)
Reno-Tahoe International Airport is conveniently located 42 miles from Wanderlust. The airport is along the I-80 and US-395 interchange. The airport is served by major carriers with non-stop flights from most major US destinations. There are several ways to get from the airport to the festival:
Rental Cars
There are several rental car companies that operate out of the Reno/Tahoe International Airport. We recommend booking your vehicle in advance. For availability visit Hertz, Enterprise, Thrifty, Budget, National or Avis.
North Lake Tahoe Express
Available from 3:30AM until Midnight! Reasonable rates, regularly scheduled service, and it drops you off right at Squaw. Call (866) 216-5222 for reservations or visit www.NorthLakeTahoeExpress.com
Tahoe Area Public Transportation
The Truckee North Tahoe Transportation Management Association offers a few different public transportation options for visitors and locals, including TART, Tahoe Trolley and Truckee Transit. For a complete list of options and route maps visit TNT/TMA.
Sacramento International Airport (SMF)
The Sacramento International Airport is 96 miles from Wanderlust (about a 2 hour drive). Service is available from 13 major carriers with many non-stop flights from most major US destinations. The most convenient way to get from the airport to Wanderlust is to book your own rental car. But for those on a budget, Amtrak and Greyhound are great alternatives.
Rental Cars
All rental car agencies at Sacramento International are located in one centralized area. Shuttle busses frequently transport passengers between the rental car terminal and the rental car shuttle stops in front of each terminal. For more information about rental cars check out Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, and National.
Oakland International Airport (OAK)
Oakland International Airport is another option for flying to Wanderlust. The airport is 200 miles from the festival (about a 3 hour drive). A rental car can be easily booked at the airport, but for those on a budget Amtrak and Greyhound provide daily services from Oakland to Truckee.
Rental Cars
Rental Car Shuttle buses operate between the terminals and the Rental Car Center. While the Rental Car Center is open 24 hours a day, travelers should check with their car rental agency's reservation center for hours of operation at OAK and make arrangements for special arrival and departure requests. For more information and to book a rental car check out Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Fox, Hertz, National, or Thrifty.
San Francisco International Aiport (SFO)
San Francisco International Airport is 206 miles from Wanderlust (about a 3 hour drive). The airport is served by all major carriers and can be reached by all major US destinations. Booking a rental car is the most convenient way to get to the festival, but trains and buses run daily to Truckee, CA from San Francisco.
Rental Cars
San Francisco International Airport's Rental Car Center allows travelers to pick up and drop off rental cars at one convenient, central location. Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Thrifty car rental counters are all available, including a green rental car program with a discount.
